Pure & Simple

Hey everyone thank you so much for stopping by my blog. I recently did a bible journal entry based off 2nd Corinthians 11:3, which says, “but I fear that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning your minds may be seduced from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ.”
I got inspired by this past Sunday at church, my pastor did a sermon on on this very subject- on how to basically change our mindset of not making God’s walk so complicated and keep Jesus pure and simple. He used the analogy of orange juice because, he let the congregation know that he is obsessed with orange juice and he likes the brand simply orange. He made the comparison on how there’s a difference between orange juice and an orange drink. He went on to say that an orange drink has about 10% of orange juice that is packed with so many other ingredients that are not natural. There’s a difference between having just a drink that is purely made out of the fruit, there’s a difference between buying something artificial that companies can’t say it’s an orange juice drink because it has all these other ingredients that are not solely from the fruit and so they have to say it’s an orange drink. I really got intrigued by this message it was just like the such title which is pure and simple to understand. He goes on to say how God is calling us back to the foundation back to being pure and simple. He said, “you were created to enjoy God and we can enjoy God,” if we’re focused on the complicated aspects of our walk with God and we make the walk with Him so complicated that we miss the pure and simple joy of the life that God wants us to live and in order to live that joyous life it requires us to get over ourselves and not be filled, like the artificial orange drink that is filled with only 10% of God and be packed with all these other ingredients that God didn’t really mean for us to have or carry that make things so complicated in life. He made things so simple and so we need to be an orange juice and not just an orange drink that is artificial.

The story of Mary and Martha is a great example of this. Martha made things complicated and Mary made things simple. Martha was the complainer and she was comparing which made things complicated. Mary made things so simple. The threat of our lives is distraction so Martha was distracted with wanting to serve and get everything ready and because of that distraction she missed the opportunity to sit at God’s feet the way Mary did. Mary did two things, she sat at Jesus feet and then she listened to what he had to say.
I really enjoyed this message on Sunday and I really liked the theme of the whole orange drink and orange juice comparison. I really liked how he tied the story of Martha and Mary into this teaching. This is how I want to be, I want to be a Mary who makes things simple and instead of worrying about all the distractions and everything, to just stop and take in that I’ve invited Christ into my home and I need to not be so distracted with everything that needs to get done in a day or what’s expected of tomorrow or how need to plan for …X Y Z, instead of worrying about all that to take time to think- that I’ve invited Christ into my home and I need to sit down and take time to enjoy him in my home instead of just saying that I’m inviting him in and and not and be so distracted that I miss him and I just want to make things simple like Mary did and sit down at Jesus feet and listen to what he has to say.

I thought this was a great entry and a great word and I just wanted to be playful with this entry, I really didn’t want to use watercolors I kind of wanted to step out of my comfort zone and use other mediums. I used it distressed crayons which are water activated so I got a baby wipe that I dabbed the distress crayons. I would lightly damp my finger and rub it so that way my page wouldn’t get so saturated with water and then I drew the simply orange bottle. I used Prismacolor pencils to color the bottle I drew.

This was a very simple Bible entry inspired by my pastor’s sermon. I hope in some way that this little message behind this entry inspires you to live a pure and simple in your walk with God because God intended our relationship with him to be solely that pure and simple not complicated and that we don’t have to buy into any artificial teaching anything other than what he has intended for His Word and our walk with Him to be as pure and simple.
