3D embossing & Distress resist spray cards with SSS- Beautiful flowers stamp

Hello everyone!

Thank you for stopping by my youtube channel and blog. In this post I wanted to share a little a bit about why I decided to do only 3 cards featuring the SSS June 2018 card kit.

I decided to do different cards using the 3D embossing folder and Distress resist spray to test some techniques with the distress resist spray. I had received the card kit towards the end of May but had not had any time to play around with the kit. When I finally had time to use the kit- there were already tons of inspiration videos for this June 2018 kit and I wanted to stray from possibly making similar cards. This is when I decided to just focus on the embossing folder and distress resist spray from this kit- some I doubt these techniques are new but they are new to me (new card maker) so, I wanted to try the techniques as seen in my video.

***photos are not in the same order as the video***

Card 1

In this card I used the 3D embossing folder in a traditional way. I used some of the Heidi Swapp Gold color shine on the top of the embossed area to show the raised parts of the embossing. I also used the distress resist spray on top of the stamped image to give this splattered look as the ink resisted the areas that were sprayed. This is something I wanted to test- in reality all of these cards were experimental…LOL! There is also a giveaway to enter see details below on this post.

This love you script is from, The Little Yellow Bicycle that I got from Tuesday Mornings. I added one in the list similar to this one used here.

In the end I loved the finished look. I love the vintage old rosey vibe.

Card 2

As I mentioned before, these cards were totally experimental lol! I wanted to used my distress crayons because I never really get to use them. I combined the distress crayons along with some Arteza watercolor brush pens to achieve these colors in the flowers. Although, I didn’t use the pattern paper in the kit – I did use one of the patterned paper for color inspiration.

I used this die from Altenew with the gold cardstock from the kit.

I used the frayed burlap distress crayon to color  the embossing folder- I immediately sprayed some distress resist spray to activate the distress crayon that I scribbled on the embossing folder. In doing this I was able to achieve this coloring on the raised embossed area of the front of the card.

I added all my element on to the front of the card panel. To finish the flowers I added some Nuvo aqua flow shimmer on the flowers to add some shine and interest. I also used a gold peel-off sticker to embellish the edge of the card where the card base meets the card panel.

Card 3

I love the shine of this card! I used once again the largest stamp from the SSS Beautiful Flowers Stamp set. I colored the image with Arteza watercolor pens. I added a simple sentiment from the Altenew love labels stamp set. I stamped the Congrats sentiment with some versafine ink and topped it with some a black WOW embossing powder to add shine and more crisp look to this sentiment.

to add shine to both my card base and card panel – I used some Heidi Swapp color shine sprays to achieve this look. The color teal used for the card base, I believe is no longer available but you can use other colors similar to this one in the color shine line or any other sprays that have some shimmer in them.

Here you can really see that gold shimmer in the card panel.

This card has so much shimmer that it definitely needs to be used for a wedding, a bridal shower, or an engagement party. This card is not a traditional card size- so, this would be a hand delivered card or a card to place inside a gift bag or gift box.

I hope that you liked these cards and that you got inspired to recreate these looks.

  1. It’s amazing how different flowers can look with just a change in colour palette. Purple is my favourite colour, so I’m a bit biased towards the second card with the embossed background, but all three are just lovely. I definitely intend to work on my colouring skills and make a mini album over the summer. Thanks for the chance.
